Tennessee Senator Jim Tracy will vacate his seat after being appointed Tennessee State Director for Rural Development by President Donald Trump. Tracy will now be part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and tasked with promoting development in rural areas through loans, grants, and other programs intended to boost job growth and the local economy. Tracy’s decision means there will now be a special election for the District 14 seat. Murfreesboro businessman Shane Reeves has already announced his intent to run as a Republican candidate. Former State Representative Joe Carr has also announced his intention to run for the vacant seat.
