Director of Schools Leah Rice Watkins says the Roane County Schools has been designated as an exemplary school district for the 2016-2017 school year. Forty-eight districts received the exemplary designation for the 2016-17 school year. One of the things that Watkins highlighted was the system’s average ACT composite score. It increased from a 19.2 in 2016 to a 19.7 in 2017. According to a presentation Watkins showed the board during the meeting, Roane County High School increased its composite score on the ACT from a 20.3 in 2016 to a 21.3 this year. Harriman High School increased from a 19.5 to a 19.9. Oliver Springs High School increased from a 18.4 to a 19.2 and Rockwood High School increased from a 17.9 to an 18.9. Despite the improvement, Roane County still trails the state average, which was 20.1 for 2017.
