Anyone who has went to see a movie recently at the Rocky Top 10 theater in Crossville has seen some modifications in the facility. The theater first opened in the spring of 2005. The first noticeable improvement was to the parking lot which received a sealing then the parking areas were striped. Crews then worked to make sure all outside parking lot lights were operational.
Work then began on the building with the removal of the poster boxes that were on the front. “Those were intended for inside use and they became weather beaten over time,” said Blaine Moore, who recently took over as general manager at the Rocky Top 10. “Instead, we brought in a state of the art 91,000 pixel screen that is on the front left of the building as you drive up. It will have the current movies playing and the show times. It even will tell you what movies are coming soon to the theater.” Work then began on the neon lighting on the front of the structure which is completed. “The Rocky Top 10 sign on the front is very close to being completed. It’s very pretty at night.” said Moore.

But what about the improvements that are on deck for the theater?
The concession stand is currently in the process of being changed. One item that is going to be offered to movie goers will be homemade caramel or cheese popcorn. The seating in front of the concession stand will change but not until sometime in 2018.
The lighting in the theater has been changed to LED in an effort to make the lighting last longer and be more cost efficient.
A big change on deck for the inside of the theater is repainting but the earliest that will start will be after the first of the year. “We are coming into the busiest time of the year for the theater. We have major movies coming out with Jigsaw, Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Star Wars The Last Jedi and others. The earliest the repainting will get underway will be in January,” said Moore.
Speaking of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Rocky Top 10 will hold a special screening of the movie Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m. central, the night before the official date of the movie. Moore said tickets are on sale now by way of Fandango and Dealflicks. Tickets can also be purchased at the theater box office.
Customers will soon see three active television screens above the box office. Two of the screens will have the movies and show times on them. The third screen will have the rating system of the motion pictures on them and an explanation of each rating. Movie ratings provide individuals with advance information about the content of films, so they can determine what movies are appropriate for minors to see. Movie ratings do not determine whether a film is “good” or “bad.” They simply provide basic information to parents about the level of various elements in the film. By providing clear and concise information, movie ratings provide relevant information to parents.

Each theater room has Dolby surround sound and a digital projector to make each viewing experience the best it can be. The audio components, JBL professional loudspeakers and QSC amplifiers mirror the finest audio systems installed in theaters worldwide. “Things have certainly changed from the days of reel movies. Now, all you have to do is press a couple of buttons and the system that runs the movies pretty much runs itsself,” said Moore.
