A convicted sex offender is facing charges in Cumberland County following a traffic stop. According to the arrest report from the Crossville Police Department, an officer pulled over a vehicle at Walmart for no headlights late at night. Officers say 49-year-old Jeffrey Chappelle James of Crossville allegedly gave the officer a false name of a subject in their 30’s. A consent search of the vehicle revealed paperwork of James true identity. James was charged with violation of the sex offender registry and criminal impersonation. According to the sex offender registry, James was convicted in 1996 for kidnapping in South Carolina.
