The Tennessee Republican Party has instigated some rule changes as to who can or cannot run as a party representative. Now candidates must be active participant in state or local Republican Party events. They must have also voted in the three of the last four statewide Republican primaries. The rule can be sidestepped if the candidate has had an elected Republican official vouch for the potential candidate. Officials with the state GOP say that the changes will set up a more consistent standard for candidates.
