A Roane County man remains hospitalized today (September 18, 2017) listed in stable condition at U.T. Medical Center following being shot by deputies over this past weekend. According to Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton, deputies responded to a home on Mays Valley Road to a disturbance. Officers say 47-year-old David L. Daugherty brandished what was believed to be a weapon at a man there identified as Keith Edwards following an argument. After officers arrived, Daugherty ran towards a wooded area. Deputies ordered Daugherty to stop and when he did, he pointed the alleged firearm at officers resulting in the officers shooting him. Sheriff Stockton said Daugherty was shot multiple times and after officers got the weapon in hand it was determined to be a fake gun. The investigation is continuing and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave with pay. A report of the incident will be released after an investigation is completed by the TBI.
