Tennessee State University did not cancel classes or lock down the campus after a former student was shot on Monday morning. Metro police say Larry Bates was shot and critically wounded in the Boyd Hall parking lot just after 9:30 a.m. University Officials say that it was a random incident and that the possible suspect fled the scene immediately afterwards and that’s why the campus was not locked down. While an alert was sent out to students and parents, it was not in response to an “active shooter” situation. Police suspect that the victim and shooter knew each other. There have been other shooting incidents on the school’s campus in the past few years.
