A prison inmate from Cumberland County has been sentenced to serve more than 23 years in prison for swapping child pornography on a cell phone that he had smuggled in to his cell. Court officials say 29-year-old Christopher David Grippe had been serving an 8-year sentence for a 2012 conviction on charges of possessing child pornography. Working on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, investigators with the Knoxville PD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce discovered a Google account user that had tried to upload files containing images of child pornography. An investigation revealed that the account belonged to Grippe, who had been distributing and collecting the images using his Facebook account since April 2016. A search of Grippe’s cell at the Morgan County Correctional Facility turned up the phone which contained 161 images and 38 videos all having to do with child sexual abuse. Grippe pleaded guilty to the crimes back in January. On Tuesday, Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Varlan sentenced Grippe to serve 280 months in prison. Upon his release from prison, Grippe will be under the supervision of the U.S Probation Office for life.
