More information is being released on the arrest of a fugitive sex offender that kept Bledsoe County residents on edge for days. Officers say 38-year-old Samuel Cravens escaped capture last Tuesday (July 18, 2017) after officers attempted to arrest him on three felony warrants for child molestation out of Hancock County, Indiana. Bledsoe County Sheriff Jimmy Morris says a citizen called police yesterday (Sunday, July 24, 2017) after seeing someone who matched the description of Cravens. When deputies approached Cravens near a river, he cooperated with them and surrendered. Officers said Craven shaved his head and his beard shortly after he escaped. Police say he had been eating corn he pulled from nearby fields. Cravens is being held in jail awaiting extradition back to Indiana. Cravens was wanted for sexual assault on a minor earlier this month in Fortville, Indiana. The Fortville Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest after the incident that reportedly took place July 13, 2017. “The Fortville Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshall’s Office, the Beldsoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office, Rhea County Sheriff’s Office and all other law enforcement agencies that have assisted in capturing Cravens,” said Fortville Police Department Major Patrick Bratton. “The dedication that these men and women have shown in the past week truly exemplifies their professionalism and dedication to the citizens they serve and the law enforcement community.”
