(CBS//WVLT) — The former football star and convicted felon known for his police chase in the white Bronco was up for parole Thursday.

With four out of four votes from the parole board, O.J. Simpson was granted parole. After serving nearly 9 years in prison, he could be released as early as October.

Simpson has been in prison for about nine years. He was convicted in 2008 of assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and kidnapping after a 2007 incident in Las Vegas. Simpson and his accomplices took memorabilia he said belonged to him from a dealer selling it.

Simpson was sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison — many observers believed it was payback after Simpson in 1994 was acquitted in the double murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
