The Athens, Tennessee City Council will hire a consultant to assist with decisions regarding the Athens City School building program. The school board proposed to downsize the number of schools in the city from five to at least three. The plan calls to renovate Athens City Middle School and construct a new Pre-K to fifth grade school. The plan is projected to cost over $39 million dollars. Some council members that voted in favor of the consultant are concerned about the money to fund the project.
