The Tennessee Dept. of Transportation is closing off a portion of Interstate 40 in Putnam County for construction. TDOT Officials say that crews will begin adjusting the barrier rail over State Route 24 in Monterey in the eastbound lanes. Travel lanes will be split into two single 11 foot wide lanes, restricting travel by oversize commercial vehicles. Loads that are wider than 11 feet must use exit 300 and exit 301 in Monterey to continue eastbound. Also, the posted speed limit in that area has been reduced to 55 mph.
