The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office recently recognized the work of 10 Upper Cumberland fire departments who collectively installed over 2,500 smoke alarms in their communities as part of the SFMO’s “100 for 100” initiative. Launched in 2015, the “100 for 100” canvasses commemorate the SFMO’s 100th anniversary by challenging fire service organizations to install at least 100 free smoke alarms in just one day. During the recognition ceremony on Nov. 22, Crossville, Cumberland County and Fairfield Glade Fire Departments were highlighted for their record-breaking smoke alarm canvass to install 1,613 smoke alarms. Other regional fire crews recognized included Harriman, Cookeville, Putnam and Fentress Counties.
