Knox County Authorities say that a crash on northbound I-75 Monday afternoon involved one of the victims having a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency personnel were summoned to the crash site at 3 PM near mile marker 117 where it was reported that an SUV had struck the rear of a tractor trailer rig. They say when the truck driver got out to check on the other driver, he seemed alright, but later, first responders discovered the bullet wound. 41-year-old Carroll Best of Weaverville, North Carolina was transported to UT Medical Center where they say he is still alive. There was no information on where the bullet wound was located on Best or if the firearm was found. The roadway was blocked for around 90 minutes resulting in backups of nearly five miles.
