GOV. HASLAM TO CALL SPECIAL SESSION TO ADDRESS DRUNKEN DRIVING LAW

Gov. Bill Haslam says he’ll be calling a special session of the General Assembly to try to fix the state’s drunken driving law and save $60 million in federal highway funds. The U.S. Transportation Department has determined that the state’s blood alcohol content for those under 21-years-of-age has dropped out of compliance with federal laws, and that Tennessee would lose the funds if it remained out of compliance as of Oct. 1st. Lawmakers have said they did not intend for the state to drop out of compliance with the federal statute.
