UT had some bumpy times during Thursday night’s season opener, but they were able to spring back from a half time shortfall of 10-points to beat Appalachian State 20-13 in overtime. Jalen Hurd was able to recover a fumble from quarterback Jason Dobbs in the end zone to give the Vol’s their only lead of the night. UT entered the game at # 9 in the Top 10. The Big Orange will clash with Virginia Tech next at “The Battle of Bristol” on Sept. 10. The game will take place at Bristol Motor Speedway with an expected attendance of 150,000.
